I'd recommend checking out:

1. The garden at Bethania Street in Lota for families. The garden aims to promote the benefits of organic food. All volunteers are welcome and they run regular gardening sessions and playgroups for kids under 5 every Tuesday http://www.bethaniastreetcommunitygarden.org/playgroup

2. Rochedale community garden at 160 Rochedale Road, Rochedale is great for year round events, workshops and gardening bees on Sundays. Membership is $40 a year http://rochedalecommunitygarden.net.au/

3. Green Corner garden in Ashgrove is a good one for city dwellers to indulge their green thumbs https://www.facebook.com/greencornercommunitygarden.
