When I was in Brisbane I visited Suttons beach and Margate beach along the coast in Redcliffe. They have nice calm water for kids/swimming and a wide stretch of beach. the perfect spot for fish and chips on the beach!

I also hear great things about Nudgee beach which is dog friendly.
