What is Gordonvale like?
We will be moving to Cairns early next year and we are trying to decide where to live. The advice has been Northern areas (Smithfield, Trinity Beach, Kewarra Beach and Redlynch) and we are also considering as far up as Mossman, Miallo etc. I have noticed that the real estate in Gordonvale & Goldsborough looks affordable, but the general consensus seems to be to stay away from the southern suburbs. Can anyone tell me any more about these areas, specifically what the schools (both high school & primary) are like?

Gordonvale is nice. The consensus about avoiding the southern suburbs is well outdated. I live south in a nice pocket of Edmonton which used to have a hideous reputation. As with all suburbs in Cairns, you want to have a look around before committing to a spot. Cairns changes street by street.
