Moving to Cairns- Help

Cairns, QLD 4870 is located within the null local government area, part of the Far North Region in Queensland.

I am thinking of relocating to Cairns in the new year, what is the best time to move and best place to live, being a single 50 year old female. What recommendations should be considered before moving? Are there any social groups or meet ups or what could be recommended for new comers to Cairns? Thank you

Find accommodation before moving.
Also figure out work if you don't have that sorted.

Hello, where are you moving from ? Rent first. I had neighbours move from Adelaide to Cairns as they hated the cold. They asked my opinion as I ws born and bred in Brisbane and Moved to FNQ as a a teenager, so had the best of both worlds. I told them to rent and feel out the area first, but they didn't listen and bought a unit. I couldn't believe what they bought. When you buy a unit in Cairns, you have two options. Buy in holiday rentals or owner occupied. I recommend renting in both for 4 weeks each during school holidays and see which type of rental unit you can deal with. I don't know where you are moving from, but so many people can't deal with Qld humidity and cyclone season and they return home within the first year. So you should rent in December and January to get the true feeling of living in FNQ and good for you for taking the leap at 50 ! Well done
