Racism in Australian classrooms ?

Caringbah South, NSW 2229 is located within the null local government area, part of the Sydney (Greater) Region in New South Wales.

We are a family of 3. Wife is Indonesian. Husband is caucasian. Son is 11 years old and obviously mixed. We are considering settling in the shire. Caringbah, Miranda, Gymea etc in a high end property/area. We are all fluent in English and have lived many years both in Europe and Asia. Our concern is; Looking at the Language Background Other Than English for some of the schools being around or less than 20%. Does that imply a risk for our son to be bullied beacuse of his background ? Should we rather target a school or area with a higher LBOTE ? Or is Sydney and The Shire in particular, truly so diverse and tolerant that this number does not matter ? Straight answers pls! Thanks a million !

It does not matter if your children are from LBOTE. A good school is the main consideration. Great teachers are so important. Think positively about your childrens future. The Shire is a multicultural society. We all belong.

Woolooware High School teaches Indonesian and there are quite a few students of Indonesian extraction there. Yes, we have racists in the Shire but no more than anywhere else. We have an interesting blend here, mostly second- and third generation Greeks and Italians, increasing numbers of Chinese and other East Asian people. Our local bakery is run by Cambodians and Vietnamese run the one in Cronulla and the two in Caringbah and you're spoiled for choice with restaurants. I've lived here for nigh on 40 years and my wife has lived here all her life. I'm Italian/Polish and my wife is Anglo-Celtic. I've never experienced racism here.
