Reviews of Coronation Drive, Mount Morgan

"Affordable living"

One of the few places left that has affordable housing. Only 30 minutes drive to the Rockhampton city gates, yet has a quiet mountain atmosphere. Like all places, it has its good parts and rough parts. Sometimes that can occur even in the same street, one end will be quiet with friendly neighbours and the other noisy and rough neighbours, so pick carefully. It is ADSL 2 enabled, but ADSL is about all the phone lines can give, the ADSL 2 signal is unreliable and will drop out a lot. Very good variety of small shops considering the size of the town. Still a good amount of community groups, (Rotary, CWA etc) but some are struggling as member numbers dwindle. Has a very friendly hospital with great staff and a police station that is open regular hours during the week, public library, post office, local fire and ambulance stations, great bakery, Retravision store, 2 hairdressers, a tattoo shop, new clothing store, Lifeline clothing store, IGA supermarket and small hardware, 2 service stations one with a good mechanic, several takeaways, not to mention 4 Pubs, and other stores besides the ones mentioned. Has a taxi service and a limited bus connection (2 times a day during the week I think it is) to Rockhampton. Lovely dam to go swimming sailing or picnicking at, and a decent public pool. Also has a children's playgroup, childcare, primary and secondary school. If you stay here long enough, many of the shop keepers will call you by name. No gym, but plenty of walk-able streets. Great bird life (black and sulphur cockatoos, occasional king parrot, lorakeets and other birds). Sometimes see wallabies out grazing in the very early hours of the day. This place has potential and one day it might go well, but it needs the whole town to believe that first. I still would not live in another place, this will do me well into my retirement. If you are weary of the cities, but want to be within driving distance of one, want to live in the mountains, and are looking for a place that is both affordable and quieter (then a city), then this place is worth a try. More friendly community orientated people please! :-) By the way I do not live on Coronation Drive, but in a quieter part of town.
