The mosquitoes are only a problem during the wet season. During the dry season there are no mosquitoes and the place is practically perfect in every way which can barely be said about anywhere in the world. The mosquitoes are a small price to pay for the opportunity to live in David Attenborough's favourite place on the planet. Regarding protection ideally you have insect mesh. Then in general you do tend to sit in the mosquito coil triangle. As it is out door living this is not too much.If you have no mesh you sleep under a net. I personally used citronella on myself and children however if i were hacking and slaying in the jungle your best bet is long sleeves long pants and spray the poison on your clothes. Mosquitoes are always worse at dawn and dusk also. Anywhere you live on this wonderful planet we are faced with challenges. There are health happy vibrant lucky children going to school in the Daintree. Ross river and Dengue do occur but can be prevented by preventing bites. In general these are self limiting harmless diseases that make your immune system stronger. Living in Sydney means you have higher rates of asthma and ADD due to air pollution. Remember with the mosquitoes brings the rain which brings the bioluminescent fungi. The whole forest floor glows at night. It is so spectacularly beautiful. I hope you get to enjoy it one day and that you can respect it. Please dont bring a dog as there are only less than a thousand cassowaries left on the planet.
