Darling Point, NSW 2027

A blue chip harbourside suburb that is walking distance to the CBD. It is a suburb known to be home to the ultra wealthy who are discreet and carry a low profile. However there is a chance for entry level buyers to getn here with units (1 br and even a block of small studios! ) for the price of boring generic 30 year old 3 bed company home in the western suburbs, ie $400-$500k. If you want a house, you will need at least $1.5m for a terrace and a house ( if you can find one, as there are only around 35 left as most have been converted to duplexes) you will be paying from $3.5m-$60m+ that's the price for Carthona waterfront estate.

The suburb has a lot of friendly types who are retired and have apartments in the area. There are a lot of young families also as the parks and recreation facilities are excellent. Other leisure activities include; the famous walk along the harbourside to elizabeth bay, having lunch or a beer at the cursing yacht club, a picnic with your favorite bottle of wine and book at mackell park, sipping a coffee at the friendly village cafe ( only 1 of 2 in the suburb) or exercising hard at the park. Schools choice is ok with double bay public primary school nearby and the elite and exclusive Ascham school for girls. Public transport is excellent with a buses and a limited ferry operating in mon-fri. and to the previous comment of Lindsay ave residents that they all limo and chafeurs, which i hope is a sarcastic comment as I live in Linday ave and catch the ferry to the city and bus as well.

The down side of the place is that is expensive to buy something of decent size and views, no real decent restaurants within walking distance ( only a Italian place and the CYC) and double bay which is walking distance is way past its heydays and in need of serious overhaul by the Council. This place is not for those seeking a vibrant and happening place. If you want that, go to Potts Point/darlinghurst or Bondi Beach, as darling point is very conservative and quiet.

I lived in Darling Point in my 20s and came back in my 60s. The walk down Darling Point road from Richie's Cafe to the ferry is delightful and, because the peninsula is narrow, most homes have harbour views to the north or west or easterly views over Double Bay, which is reached via the Marathon steps. Rushcutters Bay park is huge and a great place to run or play with your dog(s). If you walk across the park towards the city, you'll end up in Elizabeth Bay or Potts Point, both great for dining options. Edgecliff has everything you need, plus a train to the city (5 minutes) and if you've missed the local 328, you can get the 324 or 5 to the park and enjoy a spectacular walk. There is a cafe in the middle of the park and a restaurant at d'Albora Marina.

If you are a family with small children or young professional don't bother. The majority of residents are privileged rude pensioners living in their own bubble. Lived here in two different unit blocks and never met so many judgemental rude people with no manners or compassion.

The prestigious harbour side suburb of Darling Point is situated just 4 kilometres east of the Sydney CBD, in the local government area of Woollahra Council and is part of the Eastern Suburbs. It is bounded by Sydney harbour to the north, Double Bay to the east, Edgecliff to the south and Rushcutters Bay to the west. It has a population of about 3,900 11% of whom are under 18 and 34% of whom are over 60.

Property prices are high. The average price for houses in the suburb is $3.8 million and the average price for units is $1.05. It is one of the most densely populated areas of Sydney.

Historical St Mark’s Anglican Church is very popular for weddings. Elton John was married there (the first time) as were my parents many years ago.

It is home to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia which runs the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and hosted the sailing events during the Sydney Olympics.

Many famous people have homes in the suburb. Among these are Nicole Kidman, Gough Whitlam and Ita Buttrose.

The suburb is serviced by ferries and buses.

Because of its proximity to the city and the harbour with its fabulous views, Darling Point would be nice place to live if you could afford it.
