Where best to move around Perth with a young family?

I am looking to move over to WA from Scotland, UK and am really looking for a nice family suburb with good schools / facilities, and low crime. I have been looking north and south and while south definitely has better value for money with regards to property, I understand that north of the city has lower crime and slightly better education.

Can anyone reccomend any area's which could meet the best of both worlds? I have been looking at falcon and rockingham in the south and clarkson, ocean reef, mullaloo areas up north.

Work is not a problem as I will be working out of the country.
