The area is relatively peaceful. With the addition of the SugarHouse Casino on the edge of the neighborhood there is more of a police presence. However, as with any neighborhood always be aware of your surroundings. Fishtown has a neighbors association which is involved with a neighborhood watch, so you may want to look into that as well.

Fishtown is one of the up-and-coming neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Like most anywhere, there are streets that are safer than others. In Fishtown and neighboring Kensington, it's best to keep your doors locked and your guard up. Be smart about walking at night (stay in groups!) and if possible, walk on the main streets. Avoid alleys and be mindful of your surroundings.
