Forbes, NSW 2871

My wife and I moved to Forbes 6yrs ago to start a business. The business is going really well and we now have 3 kids and love it here. I couldn’t imagine a better place to start a family. The lake is lovely, there’s a ski-dam, heaps of sports for the kids. Great school options. Some great restaurants. The town is light on shopping options, but you can always go to Orange easily enough.

I have been living in Forbes for 11 years, and I can say one thing, there's no work. I wouldn't recommend this town to anyone for multiple reasons. The first, being that the town has little to no recreational amenities for adults or teenagers, it has a few pubs at best, and an RSL. The second being the town is filled with drug trafficking and drug abusers, the drug of choice being ice, crystal meth. These people will steal from you, as they have done me. Thirdly, the shopping here is exceptionally limited, mostly small businesses with big prices, no real options or variation. The good points this town has, is that it's quiet, a decent place to retire, but not a good investment for one's future. Parkes, the neighbouring town, is a far better option all round, if you're into the country lifestyle but you don't want to sacrifice shopping leisures.

Forbes is a great town with plenty of opportunities for the investor or resident. It has great shopping, heaps of parking and gorgeous parks within a short walking distance from town. On the whole the town is well laid out and fairly flat and an easy walk. There is a huge brand new Woolworths in town with plenty of parking. Investment within the rental market is very good and there are quite a few real estate agents in town. Great shopping and some amazing little cafes in town. Hospital is near by and good medical facilities. Forbes is a country town but its not a country town with nothing to offer. Why not make the move....you wont regret it!!!

Great place invest as well,as the house prices are low,the vacancy rates are low,and the rent covers the mortgage repayments.

Forbes is a very unfriendly place, there is little to do for adults and even less to do for teenagers, I would not recommend Forbes for new people to this town, it has an aging population as young people move away for employment as there is little here for them and for a better lifestyle. Forbes is a great place if you don't care how the council treats you, if you don't mind having very little to do and you like being unemployed. There have been very bad reports about the schools here as there is a great deal of bullying and not enough teachers. The TAFE has very few courses, no short courses for adults and business here is not good especially for new people to the town as the locals will not support people they don't know. I currently live in this town, I have 2 children and I will be moving next year so that my children can be educated and be in a place where they are treated well.
