"Glenunga"

Glenunga is a small southeastern suburb of 2,539 people in the city of Adelaide. The name Glenunga is taken from an Aboriginal language "unga" meaning near and "glen" because of its proximity to Glen Osmond.
Bounded on the north by Windsor Road, the east by Portrush Road, the southwest by Glen Osmond Road and the west by Conyngham Street, the leafy suburb forms a rough triangular layout. It is close by to other Burnside council suburbs of Toorak Gardens and Glenside.

The suburb is home to a number of families and retirees of predominantly Anglo-Celtic background.

Public transport for the suburb is easy; buses run down Glen Osmond Road every 15 minutes until 6pm and there are numerous other bus routes into the city, including the cross-city circle line. The Adelaide Metro provides the buses. However, the majority of commuters still use cars and Glenunga is well placed for this, bordering Portrush Road and Glen Osmond Road. Glenunga residents can reach the Adelaide CBD by various routes, and the Adelaide Hills by way of Glen Osmond Road and the South Eastern Freeway.

The suburb is very leafy with many trees, which make up for the lack of parks and reserves. There are more parks in nearby Glen Osmond, such as the popular Ridge Park. Glenunga Uniting Church is located on the corner of L'Estrange Street and Bevington Road.

"A little overrated"

I have lived in Glenunga for some time now, and it is becoming quite noisy, and full of old people.

Onlymeandyou
Onlymeandyou Yes, I totally agree. It is extremely noisy - dogs barking & hoon drivers & hoon cars speeding late at night. You can hear people fighting & screaming, front doors banging & slamming & children yelling. There is no peace & quiet or privacy at all. Late at night when you want to sleep, you can hear the very loud road trains travelling along Portrush & Glen Osmond Rds.

North When you were hearing the hoons speeding late at night (I am not a hoon driver) did you hear burnouts and the engines revving up very loud?

"A true gem in the inner south eastern suburbs."

This is a true gem in the inner south east. Only a small suburb but each and everyone of the streets is stunning. Well established large trees lining the streets gives it a cool feel even in the heat of summer. The houses are either older houses that have been redone and are beautiful, or new houses done in a similar style.

The area is quiet. It is not far from the city making getting out for a night out very easy. Although the Arkaba is just down the road. There are a number of shops close by and it is easy to get out of the city up the freeway.

There are some great places to eat nearby and plenty of good takeaways within a short distance.
A great spot for everyone…if you can afford it because you will certainly be paying for what is on offer.

"A large and leafy suburb, perfect for family living"

This large and leafy suburb is nestled in the area between the major roads of Portrush Road and Glen Osmond. The suburb is calm and peaceful, despite its closeness to major transport routes and the CBD.

Glenunga is an excellent location for travelling in to the city. It is usually just a 15 minute drive (although closer to 30 minutes in peak hour, which seems to be between just 8:15 and 8:45 in the morning and 5:30 to 6:00 in the evening). Public transport is very convenient, with bus lines on both Portrush Road and Glen Osmond Road offering frequent service. Situated in the foothills, the Adelaide Hills are just a short drive away.

Everything you need is within arms reach. Burnside Village is only 5 minutes away, with a huge Coles supermarket, a number of gourmet food shops, pharmacies, a huge range of clothing, shoe and jewellery shops, hair and beauty salons, post office, banks and a number of cafes and coffee bars. There is also a small supermarket, pharmacy and a couple of restaurants at the Glen Osmond end of Bevington Road.

Glenunga has wide streets lined with plane trees and houses ranging from grand old bungalows to cutting edge modern homes, many with pools and tennis courts. There are a few rental properties in the area and a number of family homes. Nearby schools include Glenunga International High School and Seymour College (a private girl’s school).

The surrounding streets are leafy and picturesque, so it is a great spot to wander the streets with your dog or hit the pavement for an early morning jog.
