Where should we buy a couple of acres in Brisbane?

Moving from Perth to Brisbane at the end of the year - would love at least 2 acres, under $450,000, within 40 minute drive to Rocklea for work.

What suburbs would you suggest? We are looking at Greenbank, Redbank Plains, New Beith and North Maclean so far... Have family in Ormeau so needs to be within 45 minutes or so from there as well. Cheers!

My head office will be in Southbank and I might have options to work in outer stores m, just have to see. Worst case scenario is head office and wanted it live on at least an acre with a pool so my wife and dogs don't hate me! Loved the narangba area and understand it's a ways out. I also love biking so might be able to mix the drive then park and bike when traffic gets busier.

Try looking in Priestdale. Not exactly in your budget but the conveience and quality schools make up for it. So close to everything but you feel like your in the middle of the country.

Hi there,
I think your question is a valid. but having lived in Greenbank for over 20 years I feel your budget is going to suffer a hit, to fill those requirements for under 450K is night impossible unles the home and block need major work or you can find someone in financial trouble.
For 2 acres alone the land would be around 400K.
My home is $550 K and has large 4 bedrooms, huge main bathroom, ensuite, 3 toilets, outside office which is 9m x 7m, easy made into a granny flat, plus huge builders shed, 9m x 12m long and 5 metres high with internal mezanine floor plus 3 large roller doors.

So i guess it depends what your looking for ?

Hi Angry, I've read your honest feedback and appreciate your straight up approach. I have looked for 1-2 acres within 1hr drive/rail to Brisbane CBD. How is it living in Greenbank if you could compare it with the northern suburbs of Narangba, Moryayfield or Bellmere etc? Looking for a place with a pool and 3+ bedrooms etc... Any feedback would be great as I'm getting all sorts of answers.

Hi Adam, mate to be frank , the biggest decision of your life is going to be dependent on where you are working really. Northside suburbs you mentioned are best commuted by rail to and from the city ..... IF your working in the city or close to a rail station actually. Southside sucks major when it comes to rail AND acreage ...... there is no such thing. Blocks around me that are 1 1/4 acres or 5000 squ metres are around the 350K mark, IF you can find them, I know of 2. Move further out to Logan Village, Jimboomba, Chambers Flat .... acreage is somewhat cheaper but not that much. Before we talk about suburbs its best to nail down the type of work you and your wife do and WHERE it is likely to be. After that we can talk turkey on a place to live, whether it be 2 acres or not. Hope this helps a little

Sorry Mate, just realised you said Rocklea, well that is southside so those northern suburbs are out. if you send me an email to [email protected] I can send you a map and identify the suburbs for you that MAY have 2 acre blocks left. I have lived in the area for 28 years and work in all the suburbs ... just a FYI

Not sure how my comment ended up in another thread...but here it is again... My head office will be in Southbank and I might have options to work in outer stores but not sure yet. Worst case scenario is Southbank head office and wanted it live on at least an acre with a pool so my wife and dogs don't hate me! Loved the narangba area and understand it's a ways out. I also love biking so might be able to mix commute with a drive, park and bike the remainder when traffic gets busier. I just heard the northern suburbs were easier to commute from if wanting a train option.

southbank is a great commute by train as it has a station right there. So pretty much anywhere can you to southbank .... acreage complicates the deal a little. You will likely have to drive or ride to a station from acreage. IF Southbank is your primary place of work then you should find your acreage spot on the northside easier to commute from. I understand you might think commuting on a bike to work is feasible, the roads here in Brisbane are only semi bike friendly, particularly when coming from acreage. Suggest you get here first and consider it then. The cemetry is full of bike riders who were in the right, we have shocking drivers up here and the roads are narrow in most places. QLD .... Quick Lousy Drivers .... trust me. Narangba and Strathpine, even Caboolture or Burpengary can offer you acreage. If you get a Brisbane road map and mark where the train stations are , heading north to Caboolture .... might be wise to start there. Failing that just rent for 6 months until you get a feel for work and the commute

Many many thanks for the great advice. I really appreciate it. I had seen some very appealing properties in all of those areas and worried it just might be too far to train in. Sounds like it's doable. I will certainly reconsider the bike idea as I like living and needs both legs! Cheers, Adam.
