Reviews of Griffith, NSW

"Good facilities, friendly people, low cost housing."

Our young family relocated from the southern suburbs of sydney 18 months ago which was by far the best decision we have made. We were able to purchase a near new 38sq home on big block for less than a one bedroom unit where we lived previously. Employment has been relatively easy to find for both of us. I have genuinely found this town friendly with people chatting & smiling at every opportunity. My new neighbour's introduced themselves & welcomed us to the community, always wave or stop for a quick chat & even bring their excess homegrown fruit & vegies to our door. Griffith is a vibrant town with varied shopping facilities available. Naturally there isnt the masses of choice the metropolitan areas provide but choice is still prevalent in retail, trades, medical & educational institutions within this community. Yes summers are hot & winters cold, welcome to inland nsw. Employment prospects are generally very good, unemployment rates quite low so as my family have found it is much easier to attain that elusive australian dream of home ownership here. Distance from the state capitals will prevent many families from moving out this way but many regional cities now have 85% of the facilities at 35% of the cost of accommodation.

Looking for a home in Griffith?

"Isolated place filled with rude locals"

I have lived here for 17 years..moving from Melbourne. I have yet to make one friend! The locals are extremely rude and clicky.
The quality of air is terrible, with the farmers constantly "burning off" or spraying pesticides. Along with the aweful dust storms, extreme heat in summer or extreme cold in winter. Real estate is overpriced. Schooling and medical facilities are terrible. Mosquitoes here are like they are on steroids..so lots of ross river virus here. Lake has blue green algae. And just to top it off..you wouldn't dare walk alone at night..very unsafe.

Great for

  • Quiet streets
  • Very multi- cultural if your into that sort of thing

Not great for

  • The people
  • Isolated
  • Not much to offer
  • Drug problem
  • Unsafe at night

Its like small man with big ego thing. If you like Italian food this is the place to go aside from that there is nothing. Too hot in the summer the nearest beach is around 6 hours away too cold in winter.

  • Quiet streets
  • Very multi- cultural if your into that sort of thing

"A real oasis"

I have visited hundreds of country towns and no towns of this size compare with Griffith. The pride of presentation of properties, the quality of dinning and the main street shops, great events such as Salami festival and winery open nights, ability to live 2mins from your work, and either have the choice of small acerage or quiet suburbia. Employment opportunities for various skill levels. There are not many rural towns this far inland where your friends/family come to visit and there are so many things to do. The summer heat was the only draw back for me, but welcome to Australia!
The multicultureal feel to the town is also an attraction to me, so many traditions. If you find it hard to meet people here, you're not involved in the community. Get involved through Rotary, Festivals, Town Band, Churches(Presbyterian Church ROCKS!), do some volunteer work at the nursing home or joing the garden club!
So great to have a mid-week night meeting, drive down the main street and find serveral resturants still humming, you wont find that in towns twice the size! Only minutes from fishing/camping on the murrumbidgee, or water skiing at the Lake, catching yabbies in the canals! Very fond memories of our 4 years there(no we're not local and are not Italian!).

Great for

  • Great dinning and Cafe Culture
  • Quality shopping
  • Always an event on
  • Cheap houses
  • Quiet streets
  • Very multi- cultural if your into that sort of thing

"a small town where no one wants to know your name"

We have lived in this town for 7 months and have yet to meet or even get a friendly smile or wave from any of our neighbours, the people here arent friendly at all,the people at work are great to work with but you still get the feeling we are outsiders ,on the plus side the streets are quiet and there are plenty of jobs in the general area ,we should have kept on driving to WA

Rentals in Griffith

"Griffith - Beaut Riverina Twon."

Griffith is in south western NSW in the heart of the Riverina area and is an agricultural area, growing many fruits and vegetables. Griffith is also well known for its fine wines. There is plenty to see and do including all the usual sports such as tennis, golf, bowls, squash etc Sample some of the areas great wine at the many wineries. Griffith also has art galleries and a large variety of museums. Other places of interest include the Altina Wildlife Park and Australian Cotton Processing Plant. There are many choices of accommodation in Griffith as well as some first class restaurants and bistros. Naturally Griffith has its share of take away and fast food outlets.
