There are a few bars in Hayes Valley that are good. It depends on what you're looking for. I really love Marlena's. It's located on Hayes Street, has a stage for drag shows, and has cheap drinks. If you're looking for something more upscale, then you could go to Absinthe. It's more expensive and is located at Gough and Hayes.
A little bit farther out is The Orbit Room. I'd say it's on a level that's in between Absinthe and Marlena's, price-wise. It's on Market.
