A really good brunch place is Stacks, at Laguna and Hayes. It get pretty crowded on weekends, so if you want to get a table, I suggest showing up before 10 a.m. Absinthe also gets pretty good reviews.
More casual places include Moishe's Pippic on Hayes (it's a deli-style place) or Suppenkuche on Hayes. Suppenkuche serves greatgerman food and has a great selection of beers.
