It is with great enthusiasm that I showcase this charming homestead hidden down gecko lane on 2417m2 in Bickley. Flooded with history and presenting so many opportunities for those with vision.

It is no hard task to sell its location, set in a picturesque landscape of wineries, orchards and bush land offering a change for people who are looking for a semi-rural lifestyle with the benefits of urban living a short drive away. With easy access to fresh fruit and vegie sales nearby, wineries, gin distillery, cider house, restaurants and eateries, spa retreats, golf course and a sports club for local socialisation and coffee house/cafes.

Approximately 7 minutes drive takes you to Kalamunda town centre where you can find a variety of shops and coffee houses. It would appear that the house was built not long after the Second World War. Anecdotal evidence from early neighbour Viv Douglas indicated that this house, his own house and that of another neighbour were all built at about the same time. He also said that building materials were in short supply and that explains the different inside walls.

Most interesting however, is that in 1953 the house was owned by Charles Ernest Ashcroft and his wife Adelaide. Ashcroft was one of the pioneers of the Bickley Valley (then called Heidelberg) along with George Palmateer, both arriving in the early 1890s. It was Ashcroft who donated land to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the early years of the 20th century to create a farm school, now Carmel College.

The Ashcroft's left WA and Charles continued his ministry in the Eastern States but in retirement in 1940 came back to the Bickley, Carmel area. They owned this house from 1953 to 1963 when Charles died aged 91. It seems that the property was left to the Seventh Day Adventist Church before reverting to private owners.
