My parents migrated to Australia back in 1960. they chose Yarraville to buy their first home. It reminded them of the small italian village back home. Growing up in the area, I always found that Neighbours and local shop owners looked out for you. It wasn't uncommon for my parents to send me to the local deli and pick up some deli produce and a bag of freshly grounded coffee. The purchase was always paid the next time my mother did the shopping. Nothing much has changed. People are very trusting here and working in the village we all know each other. The restaurants are really first class and The Sun Theatre keeps the village alive at night. Where else can you grab a drink in a funky wine bar, have a world class meal and watch a movie in the grand old Artdeco cinema and then to top it off either walk home or catch the train. Yarraville has attracted young families and professional couples, its so close to the CBD, only a 12 minute car ride or 5 stops on the train.
