Passive solar design and careful construction with incredibly durable and sustainable materials have delivered a home that is both very welcoming and comfortable in all seasons. Built to last many lifetimes by Groundup Earth Builders, (recent winners at the Victorian Master Builders Awards), 'Murrup' has a very small carbon footprint but a big personality!
The heritage style cottage exterior is clad with cypress pine which has natural termite protection and doesn't rot so no maintenance required as it ages to a soft grey. Copper exterior lights will also age naturally. The Victorian Ash solid timber floor in the cottage is both beautiful and hard wearing as are the burnished concrete floors in the 2 other wings of the house.
The kitchen features polished concrete and stainless steel benches with a glass splashback, Westinghouse stainless steel gas hotplate and electric under bench oven plus a nice big butler's pantry.
Both the ensuite and main bathroom feature burnished solid concrete walls (40MPA waterproofing) and aged brass fittings.
Double glazed windows, sliding and French doors flood the home in natural light. Ceiling fans feature throughout the home, enhancing the excellent cross ventilation. In addition to the high volume of internal rammed earth walls there is R2.5 blanket insulation and R4.5 batts in the roof.
The living area features a Pyroclassic fireplace from New Zealand (highest efficiency rating) with provision (wiring) for split system if desired. We suggest it's not required as the design and construction keep the house nice and cool in summer, and toasty warm in winter. There are also data points with cabling throughout house.
The rammed earth wall on the Southern side of the home has been clad externally with iron to prevent energy leakage.
