Totally not in Hyde Park, but I highly recommend Knit On! in Newport, KY. It's definitely worth a trip. They have a huge selection of knitting supplies, friendly staff, and offer frequent classes.
Joann has a good selection of knitting supplies. Michael's has a few things as well; but if you don't mind going a few miles past Hyde Park, there's a knitting shop called One More Stitch at 1609 Madison Rd. It's at DeSales Corner, just across the street from DeSales Church and Purcell Marion High School.
Though it's obviously a chain store, I always recommend Joann's Fabrics for any crafting supplies. Their location in Hyde Park Square is very accessible and well-stocked. The store is located next to a Michael's craft store, so if you can't find what you're looking for, you can always walk over and check out their selection instead!
