Iron Knob, SA 5611

My memories of Iron Baron are back from 1962, I had been in Australia for 8 months or so, when I took a job working in the open cut iron mines of Iron Baron. I remember it as a place where the people were few, but very friendly. The dust was incredible and got everywhere. As I worked on the face blasting, I never noticed the effects on the town of earth, nearly 90% iron being blown of the cliff faces, but what goes up, has to come down, the town was the lucky recipitent. It was an experience to be lived but not for long. I enjoyed my stay, but do not think I could live there. Many years and many countries are between me and that but I remember it well.
