Most of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is perfectly ok to live but probably the most desirable areas are Hannans, Lamington and Somerville, with West Lamington, Piccadilly and most of South Kalgoorlie not far behind. Need to be a bit careful about the Golden Grove or Adeline section of South Kal and South Boulder. Median rents are lower in Kal at around $390 than Perth at the moment generally as are median house prices at around $380,000. Other cost of living expenses are very similar and any that are much higher are generally offset by massively reduced transport costs, because everything is so close. It's quite easy for people to cut their fuel bills in the vehicles by half to two thirds. The other thing that tends to surprise new arrivals is the weather, which is much better than they expected, with warm sunny days that seldom get over the low to mid 30's and lovely balmy evenings.
Yes true I have lived in Kalgoorlie for most my youth and areas around the airport are quite nice and so are the areas around there but golden grove is a bit shaky with a lot of break-ins but the rest of Kalgoorlie is ok , as we have a good police force just be careful about Friday night as it can get dangerous and if you do end up in a not so nice area just saying you might end up living next to a drug dealer as I did with my family. Oh and its super common for teens to trash local parks and burn your garden. Also it gets quite hot in Kal so try to get a house with a pool !
