I lived there about 10 years years ago and at the time is was ok, not somewhere you would want to go out at night to the shop, but during the day it was ok. There were frequent robberies and assaults. Santley Cres is particularly bad and is well known for a couple of murders every year, you know, just the odd shoving someone off the balcony, that kind of thing. Kingswood high school was like a playground for violent youths, the students ran the school, and often there was no teacher in class. Having chairs thrown at them might have had something to do with it. I have heard the school is very different now with the implementation of a sports program, but you get the picture of the calibre of people that live there.
I now live about 15 mins away in Cambridge Park, and when I last saw kingswood, about 2 weeks ago, it seemed much worse. A bunch of drug addicts at the shop look like one sideways glance and they'll throw you in front of the passing traffic! And I'm just a 5ft nothing woman with little kids beside me.
Too many government tenants for my liking. Kingswood, kingswood park ( now renamed as "penrith") and Cranebrook are the worst suburbs in penrith.
Any other suburb is a walk in the park. South penrith, Cambridge gardens, emu plains and jamisontown/regentville are probably the best.

I second most of what you said. However, Kingswood High School is now an excellent school. I am extremely surprised by the drastic change that has been made. I dreaded the idea of sending my Sons there as I attended that high school and it was shocking! I can honestly say that I am proud to have my sons attending that high school. It is one of the best Highschools in the Penrith area.

It might have been scary historically, I won't be able to comment precisely on that, however I can share my experience of living here for more than 2 years. I found the area safe there are other families who share the same feeling like us. Primary School is the best in the area we are very proud to send our daughter to KPS. Close proximity to everything Train station , Hospital , Tafe, Both Primary and High School. Asian grocery stores and now we have Woolies walkable. Big parks peaceful area.
