"A magical place for a holiday home!!!"

Moreton Island has a few communities but I think having a holiday house at Tangalooma is the best option. We have the choice of using the resort facilities swimming pools, restaurant, shops, bar, quad bikes, kayaks, sailboats, tennis ect... or we can chill out in the peace and quiet of our hilltop home. We love to explore the island on the sand highways , our trips to the Blue Lagoon, Honey Eater Lake or the Lighthouse are always a great adventure. Because of the resort we have great security and access to medical help if needed. My dad had amazing service and was helped out by the local paramedic and the coast guard in a time of trouble. I think living at Tangalooma offers the best of both worlds. The adventurous can fish on the wild side of the island while the other gets massage in the hut by the beach. My favorite pass times also include a visit to the jetty every night at sunset to watch the Dolphin feeding. Where else in the world can own a home that offers this??!! We also have the most awesome views. We can watch the sunsets and see whales from our back deck. You feel at peace from the moment you arrive on the island. Even though is it is only an hour and half ferry ride you feel like you are away from the real world. It is a a pretty nice place to escape to.
We come up from Sydney and we drive if we want the 4wheel drive to see the island or if we are on a shorter trip we fly into Brisbane then hop on the ferry which is a 5 min from the airport. I have left Sydney at 6am and been there by 9 am. Amazing!!!

I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a get away or a great investment property. You can rent out the house when it's not being used.

The drawbacks include having to bring your own food and drinks as the resort does not have any decent or affordable food. It does have the basics but they are often overpriced. The cost of island living is expensive but this is same on any island.

Great for

  • Access to the resort facilities
  • Beautiful Views and Dolphins
  • Adventure and access nature, National Park

Not great for

  • Poor access to food, drinks, petrol
  • Cost of building homes,
  • Cost of getting to the island

"Moreton Island is a hidden jewel, beautiful and precious."

It's hard to know where to start...the views are spectacular. We can see the Glasshouse Mountains, the sunsets, the twinkling lights of the mainland, the blues and greens of the Moreton Bay. The island has sand roads that are usually well maintained and sometimes a bit of a challenge. Friendly locals will always help out if you get into difficulty. We have a house on the hilltops at the resort Tangalooma so there is lots to do besides enjoying the natural beauty of the island. Another thing that makes this place unique, even magical ( no kidding) are the dolphins, who who come by for a visit and fed every night. How many places in the world can you see such a thing? This is one of two places in Australia where wild dolphins can be fed by people. If you like fishing, sailing, snorkeling this place is paradise.

I don't think I could live there full time however I did spend a whole there volunteering with the dolphins and was sad to leave at the end. If you want an alternative lifestyle, like your privacy and being out of rat race then escaping to Moreton might suit you. The only drawback is that it is best to bring your own food and drinks over as prices are high and selection is very poor at the shops in the resort and elsewhere on the island. It is also expensive to travelling on the ferry.
