Kurrajong Heights, NSW 2758

I have many friends & clients who live in ‘The Heights’ and they are consistent in their opinion that this peaceful suburb with stunning views, mist covered mornings and close community is a hidden gem for the Hawkesbury! The iconic Archibald Hotel is very popular for locals and visitors and offers one of the best views off the mountain, and the lookout is spectacular. The local shopping village is friendly, cafes/restaurants are boutique with divine food, and schools are small and close knit.

I’ve been here 22 years. Don’t plan on going anywhere, other than from a 900sqm block to acres on edge of town. Bush walks (waterfalls), singing birds, perfect mix of weather, extreme community spirit & a great public school. Great for outdoor walking/running exercise. Away from hussle & bustle, but only 20 minute drive to Richmond (non peak hour)! You will need to drive to Rouse Hill or Penrith for mainstream shops. There is a park and tennis courts away from main road, so it’s very private & only used by locals. The last few years has seen an IGA with bottle shop store built. 5 minutes down the road is a bakery, deli & post office. Crime rate pretty much non existent with there being no public transport & neighbours always looking out for each other.

Ofcourse with positives comes some things that some people might see as negatives. No mainstream food delivery, no mainstream nightlife (just bbqs with neighbours), no walking dog to get a coffee, no taking kids pushbike riding (nothing but hills & you always get a resident idiot speeding the quiet streets). There is only one road out across the bridge at North Richmond, which in times of peak hour is a complete nightmare (good luck getting to work or home on time), bushfires, potential of coming across snakes & the worst part of all, TOURISTS!

Traffic on a Weekend come 2020 is now rediculous. With Bilpin becoming a popular tourist visiting spot & this being a major road out west, the weekend traffic on Bells Line of Road is no longer that of a small town. Not to mention this road has one of the highest car crash rates in Australia.

The type of people moving here has also changed over the last few years. With the life long elderly residents reducing, more and more people are moving here with their suburban attitudes. Not community spirited & Complainers of neighbour’s without conversing their issues personally first. This never used to occur. Now it’s a daily occurrence. So if you are that person, please stay where you are 🙌🏻

If your not that person and still looking to buy here, just don’t buy on or near Bells Line of road itself unless you like truck/traffic noise.

I read in a previous post the mention of mould etc. This is purely dependent on which house you buy. If your house is surrounded by trees and no sun can get in, come the winter when a few frosts set in & you don’t clean the water away from window sills etc, mould will grow.Thats just common household knowledge. Pinedale Place is bad for this as it’s smothered in pine trees and barely ever sees the sun.

If you want to join a community where everyone knows your name and make a constructive contribution to making a town a happy one, this is your place. If your inclined to keep to yourself and complain everytime your neighbours do something, stay east of Kurrajong Heights!

Having lived here for 2 years, still wake up each morning and cannot believe that we are in such a beautiful and peaceful spot but still commutable to Sydney for work. It's like a hidden gem just 70km from Sydney. Sure, if you love the night life of the city then this isnt for you, but with some great restaurants nearby, Mount Tomah not far, and the Blue Mountains just round the corner, what more do you need.

Just 10mins up the road from Kurrajong with breath taking views you will find this quiet, neighbourly suburb. Great for families and those who love nature. Kurrajong Heights is currently 21.4% Older Couples, 19.5% Established Couples and Families and 16.7% Elderly Families.

You want peace, quiet, tranquility, fresh air, no pollution, hardly any noise, wildlife at your doors, birds, space, good neighbours, a short stroll to the local for lunch or merlot, 5 mins to local shops, schools or 15 mins and you are off the map.......what more could you want.

Having lived here for nearly 10 years I can truly say the area is fantastic. Waking up to fresh mountain air, the sound of birds and looking out over the Hawkesbury valley is a pretty good way to start your day, every day. Loads of older people, parents, kids and all demographics keep the area moving. We can see the city from our deck, all the Western Sydney cities are within a 45 min commute and the city (off peak hour) is 1 hour by car. With loads of nature, space to move and soil to die for a wonderful place to retire or start a family.

We moved up the hill from Kurrajong in 2009 and will never regret it. During the summer it is a few degrees cooler which makes it lovely to sit out and enjoy entertaining outdoors. We have an amazing array of visiting wild birds every day which blows our visitors away.

Good selection of local schools within 5-10 minutes and acreage for the kids to relax and enjoy themselves.

Extra bonus was little or no crime...insurance dropped 25% just moving up the hill and thats from a very safe lifestyle in the village!

Neighbours are there if you need them and good to have a chat with but they respect your privacy. Could not ask for a better setting and lifestyle. 40 minute commute to the Hills area for work and relaxing commute home in the evening with options to avoid traffic via back roads from Windsor.

Winter? Well yes a little colder but that a great excuse for a lovely fire and home cooked meals.

After living in both older suburbs and newer estates in Western Sydney , my family and I thought it was all a bit too much - too crowded and too fast! Everyone was too busy keeping up with the Jones's!! It was time to move on and we purchased here about 2 and a half years ago. We got a sensibly priced house with a block almost 3 times than what we came from. At night, the views of the Hawkesbury valley are divine from the balcony. Misty mornings peaceful.
Best bits - clean air, a sense of safety, plenty of space, wildlife and you don't swelter in summer!. Local school is fantastic for primary aged children. Neighbours are friendly in my street, helpful when needed. Local traffic only - safe for the kids to play and ride bikes.
Downside- it gets a bit colder in winter, so your power bill is on the higher side and Travel time from City & Parra can sometimes feel like forever. But this is the trade off in moving to the outer suburbs (Blue Mtns actually). Its all about lifestyle change and wanting the best for a healthy and happy upbringing for the kids. No regrets.

We bought here 3 years ago, we love it. We got married and started a family, so werent looking for a raging nightspots etc. We wanted a place still in sydney but out of the burbs. If you want a relaxing place to come to after work and on weekends, want peace and quiet and views and appreciate the mountains then its ideal. Occsionally it seems a long way out but then i think about the old place in the suburbs and the noise and how close the neightbours house was and how all you could see from your lounge room was the house next door then its definately worth it. If you want to spend your weekends in shopping malls then forget it. We find the restaurants in the surrounding suburbs more than adequate for our needs, its only 50 mins to blu mountains. Its a beautiful area especially if you like misty winters in front of the fire, a quiet trip to a local cafe on the weekends being able to watch summer storms from your balcony across sydney and seeing green in most directions. If you like living cramped in the suburbs with no backyard, the beach, malls and a million people then its not for you. Very peaceful, our house looks over veiws of sydney.

We lived at Kurrajong heights just recently and liked the peace and quiet of the area and the overall spaciousness of the wilderness but downfalls were numerous and we had to leave. Cheap purchase prices are the incentive but the personal costs are very high! Because of the dampness of the mountain which rarely got any full sun our house was mould infested and we all got sick very quickly. Coughs, constant runny noses, lethargy and our small 6 month old baby was hospitalised twice with breathing difficulties, This was all attributed to the damp, cold and mould and this suburb is in the cloud cover 90% of the time. The neighbours didn't want to know us and kept to themselves and $20 worth of fuel a day just to get to the top of the hill is a bit of a pain not to mention wear and tear on the cars. Not recommended for anyone especially asthmatics, the elderly or small children. Nice place to visit, but live there....you couldn't give me a lotto cheque to do it again!!!!
