"Best of living in the mountains without the long drive"

Moved from small semi inner west nr. parra.rd. We wanted kids to grow up in a safe, friendly, healthy environment and always loved the mountains but thought upper mtns too far away, so compromised. Found the bottom of the mtns to have 5 min drive to fairly decent shopping centres. We have some great schools, Glenbrook Public was a lovely small school, and I believe Lapstone Public has a great music/band programme. Glenbrook is a 4 min drive, even better to walk to day or evening. It has its own cinema where they have quality films ( & I dont know anywhere else tkts are $10) and you can take a cup of tea in with you. Couple of pretty nice restaurants too. My fav. thing is to walk up to the rotary markets every third sat.

Great for

  • Has immediate access to great western hwy/m4
  • Has its own railway station
  • Fantastic views over sydney

Not great for

  • Long drive to city
  • No immediate shops (4 min drive)
  • Limited flat ground!

"That great community spirit..."

I recently bought a house in Lapstone and me and the wife have fallen in love with the area. We met and chatted with more neighbours in 1 weekend up there then what we did in 2-3 years living in the western suburbs. In our street there is a real mix of retirees and young families but it seems to be the changing phase with retirees selling up and being replaced with families. Lapstone Primary School has a great name which gives us peace of mind about raising a family there. Only downside is that there are no shops or resturants at all but it does mean no riff raff come through the area. With Glenbrook/Blaxland and Emu Plains/Penrith 5 minutes either side it isn't really an issue anyway.
