Reviews of Lewisham, NSW

"Peaceful but convenient inner west living"

Lewisham is a quiet residential suburb and a hidden gem of the inner west. It is extremely convenient and well serviced by train that takes 15 minutes to central, light rail and bus. There is good access to all the cafes, restaurants and hubs within the inner west. While it is not as exciting as neighbouring Marrickville or Summer Hill, the suburb is fast gentrifying with the new McGill and Flour Mill precinct opening up.

"I'm seeing so many"

I love that I'm seeing so many people comment good things about this suburb, but I really reckon that people should go down there themselves to see if it's really true for them. Everybody is different and what you like might be different from what I like. That's just my 2 cents. At the end of the day you're spending your own money, so you best be sure!

"Access to Inner West lifestyle, CBD and Harbour but away from the hustle and bustle"

Lewisham is an up and coming Inner West suburb. The development of the McGill Street precinct has added a new park with kids playground, community centre as well as a french patisserie and cafe. With further developments due for completion mid to end of 2017, the area will see additional cafes and restaurants in the park surrounds. This will further complement upcoming amneties at the Summer Hill Flour Mill district across the light rail crossing. This area is being gentrified at a fast pace. Being 7km from Sydney CBD with plenty of public transport choices as well as being surrounded by top schools, universities, parks, shopping and dining - Lewisham is now becoming popular with young families, professionals and students.

Great for

  • Public transport - light rail, train or bus all within 5mins walk
  • Surrounded by top dining options - Chinese (Ashfield), Vietnamese (Marrickville), Italian (Haberfield), Cafes (Summer Hill) and more (Enmore/Glebe/Newtown)
  • Cycling/Walking along the Inner West Greenway

Not great for

  • Tagging (Street art is fine, tagging not so much)
  • Some developments in immediate area not due to be complete until 2019
  • Flight path

"Inner West Haven"

Nestled between Petersham, Summer Hill and Leichhardt you can not get better bang for your buck in the inner west. 6 km from the City and on the train line means door to door in 15-20 mins on the train. Close access to Summer Hill Village, Leichhardt shopping and Petersham restaurants mean you are never far from what you need.

Rentals in Lewisham

"close to everything"

Lewisham is a small suburb nestled between Summer Hill, Petersham and Dulwich Hill. The train station is very convenient (inner west line) and buses run frequently on New Canterbury Rd. There are several quality schools within walking distance and Morton Park is a lovely big space with equipment and shaded area for the kids. While there is no shopping hub in Lewisham itself (besides a few shops at the station), the surrounding suburbs are so close by you don't really need it. Also, the aircraft noise is much better in Lewisham than Petersham, Stanmore or Leichhardt.

"Quiet inner-west suburb"

Lewisham is a quiet suburb that lies between Petersham and Summer Hill. It is located in the inner west of Sydney and is about a twenty minutes' drive to the city. It does not have any shops or cafes like it’s neighbour - Summer Hill and so it is a very quiet suburb that lies along the Inner-West train line. It has a little newsagency off the train station and apart from that, it is just pure Inner-West residential living. There are lots of old heritage style houses and semi houses. A lot of professionals board the train in the morning to go work in the city as it is a convenient area if you work in the city and want to live the Inner-West lifestyle. It is only down the road from all the cafes of Summer Hill and restaurants of Petersham so nothing is too far away.
