Summer Sunday evening walking from 119th South on 1st avenue
Would a fifty something woman walking alone down 1st avenue about 7pm be so out of the normal that I would attract negative attention? I'll be walking from a parking garage at 119th to the Upper East Side.
In terms of my comfort level...I live near the West side of Chicago and would not walk through there. But there are a lot of random shootings in that neighborhood.

Ask someone who drove through the South Side of Chicago once, I can tell you that I felt more scared over there than I ever did anyplace in NYC. You'll be OK on 1st ave and 119th at that hour, but if you are that concerned, just grab a cab or an Uber right from the garage to your destination. It is a bit sketchy over there and I wouldn't walk that far and take chances if I had other options. You can also find a parking garage closer to where you are going as its really not worth saving a few bucks on parking to get a tour of a neighborhood that you didn't really want to tour.
