The best Melbourne Christmas light locations

Each year, many Melbourne families jump in the car for a trip around town to see the city’s best Christmas light displays put on by local residents. After a couple of subdued years, the streets are back and full of colourful, fun decorations that are sure to inspire and surprise. It’s a wonderful sight to see an entire street come together to shine brightly and spread joy to onlookers.

Homely users have compiled a list of the best Christmas light displays in Melbourne. Here are some of our favourites for viewing Christmas lights in Melbourne this year so pack the kids, and some snacks and plug these streets into your GPS for a fun, family-friendly activity this holiday season.

The five best Christmas light locations in Melbourne:

1. 63 Grange Road, Sandringham

This is one huge display! Featuring the latest pop music, moving elements, an interactive display, inflatables, a decorated roof, a bubble/smoke/snow machine, a window display, lasers/projections, Christmas statues, and licensed characters. The owners support the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a charity that is close to their family’s heart. The best thing about their display is the snow machine! Don’t miss this one over summer.

2. 11 Kristina Court, Pakenham

The display is large and features moving elements, a nativity scene, inflatables, a decorated roof, a walk-in display, a window display, lasers/projections, and Christmas statues. The display has been in operation for about 5 years, and it takes about two weeks to set up. The creators of the display enjoy putting up the lights because it helps them to get into the Christmas spirit.

3. 3 Edenhope Place, Eynesbury, Victoria, 3338

The display has approximately 20,000 lights that are synchronised to the latest music and themes include Bluey, Frozen, Spider-Man, and Encanto. For those who want to write a letter to Santa, a North Pole express mailbox is provided too. The owners of this fabulous display also raise money for Make-A-Wish Australia, and donations can be made by putting money in the “Santa Mailbox” or by scanning the QR codes on the fence. The light show runs from Sunday to Thursday from 8:30-10:30, and on Friday and Saturday from 8:30-11ish. To listen to the music, tune your car radio to 98.8 FM and enjoy!

4. 8 Hansford Close, Kilsyth

The Christmas light display features moving elements, a decorated roof, lasers/projections, and Christmas statues. It has been in operation for over 20 years, and it takes over a month to set up. The owners of the display love putting up the lights because they love Christmmas and reckon the best thing about their display is the smiles it puts on people’s faces.

5. The Boulevard, Ivanhoe.

Take a stroll down one of Melbourne’s most picturesque and iconic streets to view an incredible selection of homes, trees and gardens showered in Christmas lights and decorations. Don’t head to the Boulevard too early this month though, as most houses don’t turn on their displays until the 12th of December. You can also expect a lot of traffic congestion from the 12th to the 24th of December, so we recommend parking a few streets away and walking up the Boulevard.
