Where's an artsy filled area to live in Los Angeles?

Eagle Rock.... core of counter-culture writers, artists and filmmakers has existed in the town since the 1920s
Last I heard hipsters love Silverlake, Los Feliz, and Echo Park if you can find a place. (West Hollywood and Hollywood is also popular for the hipster scene.) All of these are close to cool hipster lounges and not too far from Miracle Mile and the museums and scene there.
But I have been down to LA in a few years--don't know if the scene has moved as it sometimes does.
Urban and Artsy and that takes me to Silver lake area. Melrose Area has grown all along toward Century City and South to Beverly Hills. Art Galleries are staking a claim in many cities but the older sites and urban with artists all over. We live at the beach and its very outdoors. I took a Stella Adler Class once and she said the sunshine in CA takes out our energy- to be a true artist you have to live in New York. Everyone has an opinion as you see. What I love about LA is the fresh approach to everything and agents can now sell homes to friends and family all over the Globe, including USA and other neighborhoods. See our families live all over the place!
Silver Lake definitely comes first in mind when I think "Artsy" area. There are food trucks, farmer's markets and a booming art scene. The location is central for commuting.
Artsy area's in Los Angeles are up for debate. The Westside artsy area's are Venice Beach, Culver City, and Santa Monica. Based on your preferences, Venice Beach would fit well but could be pricey. For a more affordable area, consider Downtown LA or Silver Lake.
Venice is hard to beat for art and culture. Walk-ability - excellent.
Echo Park , Highland Park and Los Feliz are fantastic !
