Is there a drug problem in North Qld?

My wife and and I plan on relocating to Qld from Perth WA, we're thinking the northern areas such as Mackay, Townsville or Cairns due to the idealic scenery and greenery, forests, etc. As we investigate a bit further, we stumbled upon what seems like quite a bad drug problem (ice in particular) amongst the communities up there. We're now reconsidering as we have 3 young kids and obviously this is a major concern. I realise the drug problem is happening all over Aus and can't be avoided, but it seems particularly high in these small northern communities. Is it as bad as people\media are making out, and would anyone recommend against moving to any of these towns? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
