Best Ways to Enjoy the Skyline on a Budget

1. Take a 4 hour Circle Line cruise. It's typically for tourists but I hope on when I want to take to the water.
2. Jump on the Staten Island Ferry. Cheap and gets you back and forth in a flash.
3. Jump on a NY Waterways Ferry to NJ. You can great pictures of the Statue of Liberty. Less than ten bucks one way.
4. Want dinner too? Take a Spirit of NY Cruise. Listen to nice music in an elegant dinner room while eating top of the line food. Love this. Want to do it again.

I agree with the Staten Island ferry; it's especially nice at sunset, as the sun sets right over the Statue of Liberty! The restaurant at the Beekman Hotel is another great option - it's got 360 degree views of the city that are much more up-close-and-personal than the views at the Empire State. Plus, there are some nice views of the river...

The skyline's nicest at night or at sunrise/set, I think - so plan accordingly. One of my nicest NYC memories was waiting for a Bolt Bus on 34th and 8th at a wintry 7 am. Cold and dark, but when the sun started to rise in the East over the Empire State Building...worth every minute!
