Word of warning - don't go to Stand Up NY on 78th and Amsterdam. I found it very disappointing. I don't usually buy tickets in Times Square, but it was my (English) boyfriend's first time in the US and I felt compelled to do the "touristy" thing. We got overcharged for tickets (paid $40, should have been $20) and nobody told us about the $15 pp two drink minimum for dreadful drinks - and non-alcoholic drinks and food were NOT covered. Plus - the venue was falling apart. Comedy ranged from dreadful to decent, but was mostly monotonous - the whole place felt rather has-been and depressing.

I'm not into comedy. But thanks for the heads up about the Stand Up NY comedy place. I'll make sure to remember that one for sure.

If you like a more upscale comedy feeling, try Carolines or Gotham's piano place.. I think it's called The Metropolitan.. very very nice.. dark, quaint and cozy.
