"This Street is a Mixed Bag"

If you are looking for various ways to entertain yourself or to take part in something, this street has it. One area of the street contains schools. Another area contains a hospital for pets, and a hospital for humans.

It doesn't matter what you are looking for, if you want it, you might just find it here.

Great for

Not great for

  • Too many people around at time

"Very Commercial and some Places Are Dirty"

The one thing you may like about this area is that it is very commercialized. There are blocks upon blocks of commercial establishments. You can take your pick of what you like to do since there are many different stores, delis, etc., to look at and go into.

The downside to this place is that some sections of this street are dirty, while construction is going on in other parts of the street.

"Very Nice Neighborhood - Great for Kids"

If you have children, you will like this area, for there are a few schools along this street. This means there are plenty of kids for your children to play with.

The housing is not too bad either. If you are looking for a great shopping experience, you won't find it on the street, but if you go down Broadway, you will find plenty of places to go to.

Great for

  • A lot of places to park your car
  • Plenty of openness to move around
  • Plenty of schools around

Not great for

  • Not many stores except on Broadway
  • Too many kids at times

"The Most Famous Museum in NYC - MNH"

If you are wondering what MNH means, it refers to the American Museum of Natural History. Every body flocks there to see that place. If you are a history buff, you will like what you see here.

The biggest problem is getting to it, especially by car. Traveling by car is not going to work. There are too many cars in Manhattan as it is. Your best bet is to come into the city by bus or path train to Broadway and 34th St. Then take an uptown bus to 81st St. Then take a M79 bus to the museum.

Great for

  • Great museums in the area
  • Plenty of restaurants

"Very Classy But Busy Area"

When I went through this area, the one thing I noticed was the number of businesses I found. I found a different business on every block. There are delis, small stores, restaurants, diners, and many other kinds of commercial facilities. There are also residential buildings in the area as well.

This street has a lot to offer anyone.

"You Want Commercial - You've Got It"

Most of W. 79th Street is made up of commercial facilities. But there are residential facilities here and there. The biggest attraction though, is the American Museum of Natural History.

People, no matter where they came from, ended up at the museum. You would not believe the traffic that day I drove down the street. At least there was a nice restaurant on the street near Broadway I could go to since I was hungry.

"Schools and Museum - A Great Choice"

If you travel down W. 78th Street, you may be happy to see what comes up at the end. The biggest attraction for anyone to see is the American Museum of Natural History. Although, you can gain access to it from W. 77th Street as well, the place covers a few blocks, so you can also end up reaching it at the end of W. 78th Street.

If you go in the opposite direction, you will run into school systems, particularly Collegiate School.

"American Museum of Natural History"

The greatest and most often visited sport on W. 77th Street is the American Museum of Natural History. Everybody goes to this museum. Why not. It has a lot of history.

It is hard to park around the area. You may have to seek out a parking garage. But I'll tell you, with what you will find at the American Museum of Natural History, whatever you have to do to get there, will be worth it.

If you like the idea of living in an upscale and classy neighborhood, you will like the UWS. It has a lot to offer anyone. Stores, shopping centers, theaters. You name it, you will find it in this area.

Also, Riverside Park is a nice diversion to the stress of the city. Definitely a place worth checking out.

"A Rather Nice Neighborhood"

If you like nice neighborhoods, you'll like W. 76th Street. It has a lot of greenery and nice clean streets. It also has some commercial establishments. It really is a nice neighborhood to walk in. You can experience seeing so many things. The big attraction I think is the NY State Historical Society at the end of W. 74th Street and Central Park West. It has a lot to offer anyone, who likes to learn a lot of NYC history.

What can I tell you. If you don't mind busy people coming and going, you won't mind being here. There really is a lot to offer. Many stores to choose from. There are even theaters to go to. I think it is a great place, especially if you are a tourist.

The downside is there are a whole lot of tourist around and people in general. Plus, it is hard to park since so many come here in their cars.

"Very Commercial and Very Busy Area"

Some sections of W. 74th Street has apartments for residents. But many blocks have commercial establishments. Also, some blocks are decent to walk, while other blocks are not that great. I think it is up to the beholder to decide what he likes and doesn't like about the place.

Plus, when I approach people along the way, they snubbed me and kept on going. To me, the place is too busy, but that is the way I see it.

"A School Zone With Apartments Thrown In"

This street has a lot of apartment buildings, but what is even more amazing are the schools on the street. Each school system that was found had a large playground for kids to play in. This really made the area convenient for the students.

I would definitely recommend this street for parents with children.

"Park The Best Part"

If you drive up W. 143rd Street, you will find something rather unique about the street. Despite a bunch of apartment buildings lining the streets, the most sought after area on the street is what lies between Harlem River Drive and Malcolm X Blvd.

At this location is a huge park. During the summer many people hang out here. If you have kids, they will love to be there. In fact, you may find your kids there playing baseball or basketball.

"Schools and More Schools and the Park"

If you have kids and are looking for schools to place them in, you will find a lot of schools on W. 141st St. Nearly every block there is a school.

You will also see many apartment buildings in the area. W. 141st Street goes a long way. It is not a shortcut to another street. It goes a ways. But the highlight of the street is when it goes by the Hamilton Granger National Memorial. That alone is worth driving on the street.

"Schools, Commerce, Residents, and Industry - Together On One Street"

If you like a mixed bag, you will be glad to go to W. 142nd St. It has a little bit of everything. You will find apartment buildings lined up one after another on certain blocks. You will find grocery stores and other commercial establishments at street corners, and you will also find a few industrial buildings along the way.

I can't forsake the schools. There are a couple of schools located on the street, especially where the street ends near Bradhurst Avenue and 5th Avenue.

"A Park, Apartment Buildings, and Schools - What a Treat"

If you ever come to the west side of the Bronx, especially near the Hamilton Heights, and you are driving, come up to W. 140th Street. You will find it something else.

Much of the street has a ton of apartment buildings. In fact, they line the street for a few blocks. But you will also discover something else as well. There are a lot of schools on the street. nearly every block contains a school.

And there are some commercial establishments as well.

But a big part of the street, well not exactly a big part because it isn't on the street itself, but connects to it, is the Hamilton Grange National Memorial. It is breath-taking.

I would definitely recommend it to others, especially to families with children.

"A Weird Street by the Way It is Designed"

W. 172nd Street appears on the map to go a distance, but in reality, it goes from Nelson Avenue to Jessup Avenue. And that is where it ends. Most of W. 172nd Street is made up of schools and a few large buildings. From seeing them as I drove by, they appeared to be a some commercial building. Looked to small to be industrial.

Also, there were a number of schools in the area, which may be an attraction for kids. People looking to retire may find the place alluring, especially since there really isn't much to do.

"Just a Side Street"

W. 171st Street is simply a cross street that allows someone to get from Ogden Avenue to Merriam Avenue, which leads to University Avenue or Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

There is nothing going on this street. Everything that is on it has an entrance on another street, so all you see is the back of buildings.

The only good thing about it, is that cars can park on the street.

Great for

  • Space for cars to park

Not great for

  • Little too dirty in spots

"Commercial, Commercial, and more Commercial"

Everywhere you drive on W. 170th Street, the most of what you run into are commercial establishments. This means you will find delis, fast food places, and other convenience stores. There is housing around the area, but not as much as you would find on other streets. West 170th Street is more of a commercial zone than residential.

I also remember spotting a school zone along the way. So kids may like the area for that purpose.
