Summer School Begins in NYC

For those who have kids, today marks the beginning of summer school.

How many kids do you know of that will go this year. According to the report, kids from Elementary and Middle School will be reporting.

Here is the report:

The advantage to having students in summer school is it keeps them off the streets and out of trouble, at least during the day time.

I would like to start a survey based on the article I posted above. How many kids do you think will benefit from attending summer school this year? Give me an idea. There is no right or wrong answer. We are just guessing. I am curious mainly as to what you all think.

I think as long as it's well taught, it can help any kid who sincerely wants to learn. But for those who are just resentful that it's eating into their summer, that had no interest in learning in the first place...I'm not so sure. Keeps them off the streets, I guess - but also out of the park and beaches

@Ajadedidealist: This issue does have its pros and cons. You have a lot of valid points. The problem with summer school is how do kids approach it. Hey, we are talking about the kids here. How about the parents? How do they feel about it? In some cases, the parents will have to drop off the kids to school. This is the time where the kids should have been out of school, giving their parents a break from taking them to school. I don't know. This issue could lead to some interesting comments.
