Courtesy to Others on Bus
But that is not the only thing I do there. I also show courtesy to others by opening the back door for them. I get a lot of thank yous from people when I do that. And all I want to do is be helpful.
Does anyone else do this or am I the only way. Just curious. If no one opens the back door for someone else, do you offer courtesy to others in some other way?

@hhusted Good for you but I do think this is an act of common courtesy many people open the back door for others and I usually give up my seat for a pregnant woman. The aged are usually well catered to on NYC's public transit but its important for us to be mindful of pregnant women who are usually unable to stand for long periods of time.
I tend to stand for the elderly, pregnant women, etc, - but it never occurred to me to stand near the back door consciously (although I suppose people on buses gradually diffuse backwards...)
Hmmmm... I definitely do not open bus doors for people. I do, however, hold storefront doors open when there are people behind me going in or out. I hate when others don't do the same. And I've never actually given up my seat for anyone. I guess I am not a gentleman.
Wait...don't most bus doors open automatically? Or am I making that up? Occasionally they're button-pressed or something, but they're not unduly taxing...maybe some older models are more so!
Yea, there should be a button to open doors on buses, why would it be so difficult to do that other people need assistance with this?
Come to think of it, I think you have to push the doors on some older buses (ie, they're semi-automatic, but require a bit of a push) None too stressful for a sprite young'un, but I imagine hard enough for some to appreciate the effort. But the buses are gradually getting newer and newer...
