I had some input regarding these ads. I am also getting ready to put up a site to help people stop smoking.
Have you seen the ads?

But surely everyone knows smoking is bad for you! How is this news?
@hhusted more than the store ads its those anti-smoking TV ads that creep me out..
this one in particular.. it makes me cry every time.. You tube has the Aussie version but the American version has aired often enough on TV..

@Everyone living in NYC as we all do ..how many people you know are active smokers?seems like smoking is banned everywhere..
Half the people I know smoke. But, it kinda seems like a young person thing.
Lots of people I know smoke, and I'm always surprised when they disappear off for a cigarette break. I had associated smoking incessantly with Europe but it seems lots of NYers have this dirty little habit.
I hate those smoking things that advertise tooth decay... apparently bodegas that sell cigs have to put them up or they get fined.
@JenMac It's a young person thing, until you become an old person still addicted to them.
@NeverSleeps And then it just loses its edge.
Ha... old people smokers are so uncool! Unlike Lady Gaga.
Ugh... I quit.
I feel most sorry for those smokers who have to stand outside their office buildings in the freezing cold to have a 'drag' just because they are not allowed to smoke inside their buildings.. they make for a sad but amusing sight!
I smoked when I lived in France. And I'm sure glad that's behind me. I agree that old people smoking is totally unappealing and wouldn't want to be one of those people.
I read Allen Carr's The Easy Way to Quit Smoking and I actually quit before I finished the book. It's weird, but it must be totally true: the addiction is completely psychological. Your body hardly notices when you put down the cigs (addiction-wise).
@uptowngirl Me too! I'll bet they wish it were the fifties and they could chain smoke in their own cubicles, the health of co-workers be damned.
@JenMac I actually think so too. I quit smoking without much effort. I just didn't want to smoke anymore, and didn't.
@Everybody: People who smoke do it because they are addicted to it. If they would face reality and understand what smoking does to their insides, perhaps they will stop smoking. My father nearly died from smoking. I had friends who developed lung cancer from smoking. Anyone who uses excuses for not wanting to stop are either ignorant or just so addicted to it that they refuse to quit.
As for young people, tobacco companies do target young ones because they are easily influenced.
@Everyone Bet you've all heard the saying ' kissing a person who smokes is like liking a dirty ashtray!' that was enough to put me off smoking and smokers..
It's yucky. Only a person who themselves smokes would want to kiss a smoker. I think smoking has become a deal-breaker for me in the possible romance category.
@Uptowngirl and @Uraniumfish: I dated a woman who smoked and hated it. I never dated her again. I can't stand the smell of smoke on anyone's breath. If you want to kill yourself, do it. But at least use a breath mint before talking to me.
I've made out with my share of nonsmokers. It's not a deal breaker for everyone. But thanks, guys, for comparing me to an ashtray :)
I quit! Tomorrow.
