Voting NYC

@Uraniumfish I can't vote but have been following Reshma Saujani's campaign simply because she is of South Asian origin and its rare to see someone like her on the political scene.

What is she running for?
@Uraniumfish She was running for the 2010 Democratic primary for the U.S. House of Representatives in New York's 14th congressional district against incumbent Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney. She lost in spite of having some heavy weights backing here

Did they happen already? I honestly forgot all about the primaries. I guess I am more concerned with the general election...
@NeverSleeps the primaries took place last week
This was the first time I ever voted in primaries. I'm on a concerned citizens kick these days and figured I should participate in my democracy!
There were a lot of concerns and complaints about the new voting machines:

@Uraniumfish I too read those reports and was a bit amused because I thought faulty voting machines were just a third world ill.
@uptowngirl It's a big, big issue since the 2000 elections, and the government has created a 3 billion dollar budget since then to buy new machines! The machines that gave trouble during these last primaries were totally primitive, though. Basically, just scanners. You still fill out the ballots by hand, by bubbling in. Now THAT is primitive.
My God - Carolyn B. Maloney has been around FOREVER! I remember her name being bandied about when I was a tyke - if I'm remembering rightly. Which reminds me to send away for my absentee ballot!
