Reviews of Mathieson Crescent, Weetangera
"The street and suburb for a young family"
Quiet park at one end, 2-5 minute walk to bus stops in either of 2 streets, 5 minute drive all of local shops (Hawker) has everything, Jamison Centre has everything but bigger, or large Belconnen Mall, bigger again.
These are all within walking distance too.
There are 2 preschools within walking distance, Weetangera or Macquarie
Choice of 2 government primary schools, Weetangera or Macquarie, both easy walks, and 2 high schools, Canberra High or Belconnen High. They are slightly further to walk, or easy bike ride. My children chose to walk but I think buses go to both, maybe not directly though.
Hawker College is a bike ride away, probably 15-20 minutes, or bus.
The Australian National University and Canberra Universities are about 5-8 kilometres away.
Neighbors are a mixture of retirees, older workers or young families, no teenagers that I have seen.
There is a indoor basketball 5 minutes away, likewise tennis courts and swimming pools.
Horses are agisted in paddocks at one end of Weetangera, near a truly lovely large nature park. There are a lot of kangaroos in this park.
Dogs generally don't wonder the streets and are usually quiet, but a few cats wonder freely.
At night you can hear and see possums in the trees along the street.
I can't imagine a better street for convenience for bringing up children.
