Reviews of McLaren Vale, SA

"South Australi's location "secret""

A semi-rural town with picturesque vineyards yet not far from Adelaide if you manage the use of the expressway nearby, boasting around 60 boutique and nationally recognised wineries in and around it - in McLaren Flat, Blewett Springs, including Willunga. McLaren Vale is a friendly town with quiet neigborhood, mix of retirees and families with kids, there's kindergarten, primary & secondary schools and childcare, medical and health facilites have expanded. Majority of residents are long-stayers, and the best streets are: Valley View Drive, Vine Street, and Woodley Grove, abounding in trees, gardens, and birdlife. The large shopping centre of Colonnade & Centro is 15 minutes away in Noarlunga and so is the train station. RSL on Wednesdays and the McLaren Vale Bowling Club on Fridays serve quality cheap meals. There are select restaurants and cafe houses serving local produce, the butchers sells excellent meat products and the Bakehouse sells their award-winning meat-pies. You won't be disappointed!

Looking for a home in McLaren Vale?

"Location Location Location"

Ive Lived in McLaren Vale now for over 10 years my children have grown up here. I love driving over the hill to see little McLaren Vale village in the near distance and all the stresses of the day just start to wash off. We love meals in the local pub and restaurants and the festivals that come around every year are always fun. The people are friendly and the kids are well behaved( mainly because there is always someone you know watching over them)....If we sell we will have to find a house in McLaren Vale to move to because we are not moving away....ever

True, McLaren Vale is one of South Australia's location "secrets" - it is semi-rural yet only 30 minutes to Adelaide via the expressway, has excellent wineries and food from local produce, the best meat-pies in town at the Bakehouse next to Coles, the best pizza at Oscars, and Magnum restaurants serves great food at very reasonable price. Locals are spoiled!

"Wineries that are really close to the city"

McLaren Vale is an easy one-hour drive south of Adelaide. Upon entering McLaren Vale, you will be greeted by many well maintained and sometimes heritage houses. The main streets are very clean and people are really friendly here. The rows and rows of grapevines provide a beautiful backdrop for the many cafes and restaurants here. McLaren Vale feels like a small country town but with character and an "X" factor.

McLaren Vale is famous for its wineries and many of these are smaller operators as compared to the Barossa Valley. Wineries here include Chapel Hill winery, Rosemount Estate and Wirra Wirra Vineyards to name a few. If you are a wine lover, this is the place to visit for a day trip when you are in Adelaide.

"A relaxed wine region close to the city and the sea"

McLaren Vale is situated just 35 kilometres to the south of Adelaide. It is an easy drive from Adelaide via the Southern Expressway in about an hour, provided that you get the Expressway at the right time when it is open in the direction you are travelling.

Nestled in amongst the hills, and just a stone’s throw from the beach, McLaren Vale is a lovely spot to live. Many locals commute to Adelaide for work from here, so that they can enjoy the relaxed ambience of the country surrounds. There are country homes, farming properties on reasonably large acreages and also a number of housing developments popping up around the countryside.

The region is famous for wine-making, and the region is decidedly pretty as a result with many vineyards around the area. The town also benefits from a number of cellar doors and restaurants which are all part of parcel of being a wine region these days.

Whilst often quiet and relaxed, McLaren Vale is occasionally full to the brim with tourists, particularly on weekends holding big events like the McLaren Vale Sea & Vines food festival.
