Living question

Hi. I am coming to study in Latrobe university, Melbourne, Australia! It is city campus which is located on Collins street. I need a studio apartment but in an area that isn't that expensive. I dont want to life in an unsafe place but something that is not too luxorious.
Any suggestions on which areas i should look at? Transportation shouldn't be an issue because i will be getting a car.
