Housing Commission Units

Mount Gravatt East, QLD 4122 is located within the Brisbane local government area, part of the Brisbane Region in Queensland.

You may have noticed over the last 12 months housing commission units being built on Nursery Road, Creek Road and Cavendish Road. In each case the government has removed 2 or 3 housing commission homes and built these modern 2 story units in their places.

I would be very interested to know what locals are thinking about this new housing idea?

Has anyone had successes on neighbouring properties to have the zoning changed to allow units on their land due to these constructions on RES A land?

Replacing Housing Commission stand-alone 1950s houses that were built on blocks which are, by today's standards, way larger than many new homesites, is a sensible move.
It's a rare circumstance where long-term rented HC houses are distinguished by attractive gardens. Stand-alone properties on 600m2 lots are unsustainable for the public sector, and infill lot sizes within Brisbane are now well less than that. Any move by social housing to intensify development with new units is a great idea, especially as design within infill neighbourhoods does not run to larger blocks, and the community housing needs and clients have markedly altered since the post-war era when the old timber+tin houses were built.
