The short answer is absolutely not, because you are caring for children, the property which would house the children in your care needs to meet very strict law abiding guidelines.
Also because it would be a “Business” you need to own land outside of your typical residential zoning i.e you need to own land that enables you to run a business from so the answer is no you cannot run a child care business from home

Yes, judging from the experience of some of my family members.

Here's just one path to follow http://www.familydaycare.com.au/childcare_career.html as your question was titled family daycare. As you can see from the link it's a long haul because of the necessary strict guidelines. It's hard work regarding necessary qualifications, personal characteristics plus many, many other factors including the legalities. Many people have achieved success in this area. It's sure not for me, but can be perfect for the special people ideally suited. It would be hard, demanding work with great responsibility.

So the answer is "yes".

Dear asian49,

In kenneth123's haste to dissagree with me he has either missread your question or miss understood it.
Your question was and I quote "could I do CHILDCARE bussiness from home".
Kenneth123 has provided you infortmation on the un related subject of DAYCARE, not childcare.
Now, childcare centres are associated with an educational enviroment that includes curriculum for ALL ages, where as DAYCARE offers only drop in care, before and after school care and is NOT curriculum based, so unless you are a qualified teacher you cannot operate a CHILDCARE bussiness from home as you asked.
So the answer is 'NO'

Looking for a home in Mount Louisa, QLD 4814

Asian49,

if it was daycare you where interested in and not childcare then you still need council approval to run such a bussiness from home, the link that kenneth123 provided fails to address this.
Not everyone is entitled to run a daycare centre from home there are issues with parking of vehicles, also the constant coming and going if vehicles, noise and other issues your local council will consider in your application to run a bussiness from a residential address in my expierience neighbours can prove un co operative in your application to do so

Asian49, as your question was titled " business from home through *family daycare* ", I thought I'd give you a link in my first post to a fantastic organisation that my daughter and son in law have been associated with for a very long time...... Family Day Care. If you pm me I could give you their phone number if you wish to learn more (I'm assuming they'll give permission, but I'll need to ask them first of course).

Here's a link to the Family Day Care "Queensland" site, seeing you're from Qld. http://www.fdcqld.org By contacting them you will get **ALL** the correct and necessary information regarding the legalities involved........... you won't get "opinion" you'll get 100% "facts". I hope this helps. Good luck.

I realise this is an very old post, but if for some reason someone- like me- were to come across it I would hate for them to be miss informed. YES YOU CAN RUN A CHILDCARE BUSINESS FROM HOME. To clarify 'family daycare' is a TYPE of childcare. Also family daycare requires you to follow a curriculum, to run a family daycare you are an educator and are required to educate mainly through educational play. You are able to set your own hours ( meaning care can be all day not just before and after school) and whether you are available to care for children on a permanent basis NOT just drop in. You will need permission from your council (not hard to get), also if you are renting you will need written permission from your landlord. The above link to family daycare qld tells it all.
