Does the smell of the salt lake both anyone?

I was looking at putting an offer in on a block near the lakes in Munster/Lake Coogee area, hadnt had an issue with the odour until last night when I went down you could clearly smell the salt lake. Does it get bad enough to be an issue? Also, are midgies a problem being close to the salt water? ta
