50% off the NYTimes

So, I realize that most people read their news online - and obviously the NY TImes realizes it too, as they're offering a 50% discount on home delivery.

I thought about taking advantage of this deal, but I just picture a stack of unread newspapers in the corner of my bedroom, while I sip my coffee and read the news on my iPhone at my desk.

What are your thoughts?

I don't bother. If I really want to learn about what is happening, I can go online and get it. I actually have an online account with the NYTimes.

I'm going to have to pass, too. Maybe if they start offering it for free...

@BroadwayBK I also have an online account with the NYT and it suits me fine. I already have the FT coming in which sometimes lies unread for days until I recycle the lot.

@NeverSleeps: For free? That'll be the day. The NYTimes is struggling enough as it is.

@uptowngirl Same here. Until they start charging for that, too, I suppose.

I guarantee they will start charging for that pretty shortly, here.

It's not long off - apparently it's happening any day now. Which is a pity, as I enjoy their free articles and online content.

@everyone here are the current salary figures for the NYT CEO Janet Robinson-$4.9 million last year in compensation and you thought only investment bankers were well paid!. A bit shocking for a struggling newspaper.

@Uptowngirl: I'm not surprised. The big hunchos are usually paid their big bucks no matter what the shape the company is in financially. They expect it and they get it, even if the rest of the staff have to lose their jobs for it. Those big executives only care about themselves and no one else.
