Great, thanks @jenmac! NYC is so expensive that I'm certainly glad to find a rare free thing to do - although in a weird way I think free stuff is much more common than merely inexpensive stuff.

@Ajadedidealist: Any time you get anything free in this city, take advantage of it. You know what I mean. You don't get too many things free. And when you have to pay for stuff you know how high priced it is.

It's sites like that which make me want to move to New York. No other city has so many free shows, events, art, etc., even open bars. If you're into finding free drinks (who isn't?) you should definitely check this out:

This lists all the open bars in NY for each day. Some have a cover fee (usually around $10), while others are completely free.

Thanks for the link, @elysium! My favorite free thing to do this coming term will be to try to snag tickets to see Al Pacino performing as Shylock in the Merchant of Venice at Shakespeare in the Park!

@landee: Summer screen in the park is pretty cool too. You watch classic movies, picnic style in Bryant Park. It's always packed, free, and it's really fun; one of my favorite NY pasttimes.

I'm surprised that myopenbar is still around... I'd completely forgotten about that site. And I used to get emails from them... I guess I stopped caring after I started being able to afford to just hang out wherever I want and actually pay for drinks.
