Gossip Columnists in NYC

A propos of this fascinating article - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/31/fashion/31musto.html - do any of you read any of the NYC gossip columns? Page Six? Etc? Do you enjoy them, or feel a bit guilty? Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but this article gave me more respect for the work involved in tracking down every little bit of information for publication - it may not be covering Chechnya, but it's still journalism!

@ajadedidealist I do sometimes read Page 6( only in New York kids only in NewYork) when I buy the New York Post but I do think there is such an overdose of celebrity gossip that we are bombarded all the time with it thanks to twitter and the millions of websites and shows like E news which are devoted to such news. Its the tabloidization of our culture though its much worse in England dont you think?

@uptowngirl - I agree with you there. I'm honestly not a huge fan -indeed, a fan at all - of celebrity gossip (although somehow I always seem to know about it...there must be some unconscious diffusion of the information into my brain - even if I don't listen to much music/watch much TV/etc) - and I've never visited TMZ or Perez Hilton or read Page 6. That said, I thought the NYTimes article about this gossip blogger - particularly given the "alternative" nature of his clients (he's for the Village Voice) was quite interesting!

@ajadedidealist yes it was it must be quite tough in fact to be constantly on top of your game and ahead of all those other journalists who are out there looking for those same 'scoops'.

I'm not into reading gossip pages. To me, gossip is just rumors. If I heard something that pertained to me, or that I found interesting, I may go to the page and read it. But usually I am very busy with my writing work to do any extensive reading of anything not related to what I do.
