Hi Carole - There aren't a whole lot of hotel options in Newport, but you could try the Williamstown Junction Guesthouse (http://www.theguesthouse.com.au/) - this renovated old Victorian home offers affordable rooms for travelers. I'd also recommend searching on airbnb, where you can often rent a whole apartment for less than what you'd pay for a hotel room.
