Thinking of buying in Newport
we are thinking of purchasing a property in newport (the property is bordered within the strand/north road and melbourne road). some here have mentioned the industrial smells and 'shoddy' behaviour at the train station. would like to know others throughts on this suburb - is the industrial smell present? and is it safe for families?

We purchased 9 months ago in River St near where you are looking at purchasing. Absolutely love it. Close to parks, the water and the city which is exactly what we were missing in the East.
I saw the same comments on the smells and have yet to experience this, maybe the wind hasnt been right but I doubt it. Train station is no different to any other in Melbourne I regularly use it into the city and have not had any issues.
From a family with young children (3 yo & 1 yo) we cannot tell you how happy we are to have moved here as all our neighbours are exactly the same, young families with kids.
