Is North St a good place for a young family

We are European academics working in Parkville but not yet familiar with Melbourne and found a house on North St. We like the proximity as we could bike to work and it also seems to be rather quite and have playgrounds for our toddler in walking distance. Can anyone comment on the area, please?
